v      I worked as a Data Entry Specialist for the company and worked over Quality Control with two other people on split schedules.

v      I was promoted within 5 days of starting.

v      I ran data on Salmon fish. My data would consist of how it was pumped in from the boat, to the dock for separating, to the factory for processing and also to the freezer for shipping.

v      When I had the free time I would help support and instruct employees of safety and guidelines to follow within a work environment.

v      I helped with sanitation at the end of each day to keep a clean working factory.

v      My schedule involved me to work 16 hour days, seven days a week and a 112 hours within every week.

v      I was hired on as a warehouse manager for Oak Express in Furniture Row.

v      Operated an Industrial Forklift in a warehouse setting for 18 months.

v      My daily tasks consisted of building chairs, dining room furniture and bedroom furniture.

v      Doing load outs and pulling deliveries for customers. With the deliveries pulled before each night, I had to unbox and stage everything for the following day to be shipped off to customer’s homes.

v      I was hired on as Chip Spinner in a manufacturing company.

v      Was Responsible for pulling metal chips from CNC machines all day in a timely matter over to my work area.

v      The chips were picked up by a manuel crane and then separated into separate bins.

v      The bins were then put through a spinner to reclimate the oil out from good and bad.

v      Responsible for keeping my work area emaculate at the end of each shift. It was very easy to have an injury where I was working, so being clean was a priority at all times.

v      I worked for this company for 18 months. My employment consisted of two summers in Skagway and one winter in Juneau.

My name is Tiffany Hanson, acting Quality Assurance Manager for Silver Bay Seafoods Valdez facility. Byron Holley worked for me as a Quality Assurance Technician during his summer employment with Silver Bay Seafoods. This job serves as a promotion for outstanding employees who are able to demonstrate underlying potential and attention to detail. While there is less physically strenuous work involved, meticulous data collection and assessment can be a trying task after working consistent 16-hour shifts. Additionally, QA technicians must be always observant of any unsanitary conditions, which can include reprimanding noncompliant coworkers.

 

Every season in Alaska is a measure of human resilience, but this particular summer was easily the most demanding in recent history. Byron was the only Quality Assurance Technician who lasted the entire season from start to finish, retaining a positive attitude. Byron’s work ethic demonstrates diligence, loyalty and reliability. As of his departure from Valdez, Byron is rehireable.
